Edinburgh Area
OverviewScotland's most important city, Edinburgh, is not only the banking and finance center but boasts some of the finest golf courses in the country. "East Lothian", the area just to the east of Edinburgh, features Muirfield, Gullane and perennial favorite North Berwick GC among it's most popular courses. Muirfield GC, more formally known as "The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers", has the world's #9 ranked course, a classic links with a twist: instead of the holes being "ning out and nine in", there are two loops around each other that end near the clubhouse. This unique routing allows for starting on #1 or #10 tees, plus the wind direction being different in each hole! North Berwick GC is always rated high from a pure enjoyment satisfaction level, and many guests play it time and time again due to it's charms and famous holes such as "The Redan". |
Most Popular East Lothian CoursesNORTH BERWICK WEST (6,315 yards - par 70) - Be prepared for blind shots, stone walls across fairways and classic old-fashioned golf. Home of the original Redan Hole (#89 Golf Magazine World Top 100) and often ranked in the top three “favorites” of any Scotland golf tour – a real classic. WWG Grade A GULLANE GC #1 (6,566 yards - par 71) - Pronounced “gull-in”, this very challenging British Open qualifier links provides dramatic, gorgeous views of the Edinburgh coastline toward Muirfield. Small greens are heavily bunkered and the course is a great test of links ability. One of the great “sleepers” in the great Scottish links golf world. WWG Grade: A- MUIRFIELD (The Honorable Company of Edinburgh Golfers) (6,894 yards – par 71) - One of the oldest clubs in the world, dating back to 1744 (shortly thereafter they drafted the first set of rules), and site of numerous British Open Championships (#9 Golf Magazine World Top 100). Strict handicap guidelines of 18 for Gents and 20 for Ladies with very limited tee time availability. WWG Grade A+ |
