London, Kent, Merseyside and "Royal" golf courses
Four great (British) Open Championship courses are in England...
Best of English Golf Courses
England may not be as popular of a gold destination as Scotland or Ireland, but we've often wondered why? Four of the British Open Rota courses are in England: Royal Birkdale, Royal Lytham & St Annes, Royal Liverpool (Hoylake) and Royal St Georges, site of the 2011 Open Championship won by Darren Clarke.
In addition, there are other world famous courses, in links, parkland and heathland varietals, such as Ganton, Wentworth, Sunningdale, Formby, Southport & Ainsdale, Hillside, Royal Cinque Ports, Princes, St Ednoc, Saunton, Burnham & Berrow ... the list goes on and on. Plenty of world ranked courses to combine with legendary inns, luxury hotels, the worlds most popular pub culture, and easy access from almost any gateway in America. Consider England for your next golf vacation and let Wide World of Golf help!
Southport, England is often compared to The Monterey Peninsula in California or The Sandbelt area of Melbourne, Australia as having “the most great golf courses in a small geographic area”. Three British Open Rota courses, some great “sleeper” links that could be world ranked if not for its famous neighbors, and a fun little seaside town that just buzzes with activity through the summer months. Southport is a great golf destination, no need to change hotels and complicate your vacation: just park yourself here and play the local great courses, with most within a 15 minute drive!
Ever wanted to play all the British Open Rota courses? WWG has a plan to makeyour dream come true in one easy trip. The five Scottish "rota" courses and the four English "rota" courses included, with nice 4 star hotels and a comfortable van for your foursome. It's a lot of tough golf an a bit of driving, but one way to play them all in one great 12 day trip!
London & Kent (SE coast) or Cornwall (SW coast) offers great options for Southern England. Whether it's London (Sunningdale, Wentworth, Walton Heath etc), or the great courses in Kent (Royal St Geroges, Royal Cinque Ports, Princes etc) we have a great package for you in England. Cornwall, Devon and Somerset''s links courses St Ednoc, Saunton, Burnham & Berrow, among others, are the best value in English golf!
"Much overlooked are the great golf courses of England because so much media is directed toward Scotland and Ireland. But I guarantee you a week in Northwest England (I love The Vincent Hotel in Southport) with rounds at Lytham, Birkdale, S&A, Hillside, Hoylake etc will be a vacation you will cherish. Likewise, the southeast with Royal St Georges, Cinque Ports, Princes etc are another great way to spend a week without the big crowds! And the southwest courses along the sea are real sleepers!" - Bill Hogan (WWG President):ENGLAND GOLF MAP "click here"
