Ireland Hotels

Castles, hotels, resorts and B&B's in Ireland

Some of our favorites:

Below are some of our favorite Golf Hotels in Ireland. Since 1957 Wide World of Golf’s customers have been rating our hotels of choice. Hotels of all types, castles, country homes, guesthouses, 3, 4 and 5 star properties that are close to the great and famous links.

ADARE MANOR - Adare
The 18th century Adare Manor, a RAC 5 Star Hotel has for the second year been listed as one of the top 10 foreign resorts of the world by Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.  Located in the town of Adare, this property is set amid 840 acres of lush countryside with its own excellent golf course. The Manor is an architectural jewel presiding over breathtaking formal gardens, majestic parkland and fascinating ruins dating back over eight hundred years.  The Tack Room Pub (downstairs) is one of the best pubs in Ireland. The beautiful oak stairway is dominated by finely carved ravens, and is reputed to be the second longest in all of Europe, with its ornate architecture modeled after the Palace of Versailles.  More than fifty individually carved fireplaces enhance the ambiance of the spacious bedrooms and suites, each a meticulous re-inspiration of the original design.

AGHADOE HEIGHTS HOTEL – Killarney
Perched on the hill of Aghadoe, overlooking the Killarney lakes and mountains, this five star hotel embraces each guest in a gracious and elegant setting. It is a truly magical residence, that blends the warmth of a country home with the style and luxury of a contemporary, five star International Hotel. Every guest room gazes out upon Killarney's majestic landscape and the newly redesigned “Lake Room” Restaurant also has panoramic views of the lakes and mountains.

ASHFORD CASTLE - Co. Mayo
The five star Ashford Castle has long been considered one of Ireland’s most outstanding properties and has adapted the facilities to cater for the demands of today’s discerning clientele.  Now a total resort, guests can enjoy complimentary golf and the health club facilities, which comprise of a fully equipped gymnasium, sauna, steamroom, and whirlpool.  Other sports to be enjoyed are horseback riding outdoor and indoor, cruising and fishing on Lough Corrib. Ashford is an ideal touring base, and one of the more popular day trips is exploring the beauty of Connemara with shopping in Galway and a visit to the village of Clifden.  Other day trips include visits to Kylemore Abbey and Westport House, Sligo and Drumcliffe Churchyard, the burial place of William Butler Yeats.

BALLYLIFFIN LODGE AND SPA - Co Donegal
The first thing that will strike you about Ballyliffin Lodge and Spa is the spectacular panoramic view of Malin Head and the Inishowen coastline taking in the world famous Ballyliffin Golf Club, the golden sands of Pollan Bay, and the Atlantic Ocean. Set on 2.5 acres in the heart of Ballyliffin village, the drama of its views is continued as you enter its beautifully designed  interior where traditional charm and luxury is woven into the very fabric of the exquisite décor.  Developing an international reputation; designed and built to a 4-star standard.

BALLYNAHINCH CASTLE - Co. Galway
Ballynahinch Castle’s colorful history has associations with such disparate personalities as Humanity Dick Martin, founder of the SPCA, the Celtic O’Flarity Chieftains and His Royal Highness, Maharajah Ranjitsunji, (an Indian Raj) who rebuilt the place as a private residence around the turn of the century.  Set in the mountains, with the run of 13,000 acres, on the banks of a famous salmon fishery, the Owenmore River, the castle has casual country elegance, which encourages relaxation with open log fires, restful decor, superb service and the wild and wonderful Connemara landscape.

BUSHMILLS INN - Co. Antrim
The oldest part of the coaching inn could date back in time close to 1608 when the Old Bushmills Distillery was granted the world’s first ever ‘license to distil’ whiskey.  It was however in the 1830s when the main coaching inn was built as part of a major redevelopment of the town by local landowner Sir Francis Workman Macnaghten.  Early this century the hotel fell into decline and it wasn’t until 1987 that extensive development was undertaken, with additonal modernization and renovations just completed. The cozy glow of a turf fire, the gas lamps and the circular library, with its intriguing secret room, give the inn a unique character.  Bedrooms all have spacious private baths and are individually decorated in comfortable cottage style.

DOONBEG RESORT LODGE & SPA – Co Clare
The accommodations and service at The Lodge at Doonbeg are extraordinary, easily 5-star plus. The suites and cottages are all private residences, meant to be a home away from home. As such, they are equipped with everything a discriminating traveler would require, and then some. Suites (averaging approximately 2,000 sq ft) and cottages (averaging approximately 3,000 sq ft) have been individually designed and decorated so that no two are alike. Each consists of a living room with gas fireplace, fully equipped kitchen, wireless internet, and differing number of 1, 2, 3 or 4 bedrooms. Every little detail has been well thought out (both US and Euro plugs, for instance) and the resort is our favorite in Ireland. Perfect for families, couples traveling together, or groups of golfers, where guests have room to relax and entertain. Most importantly, the service and dining options are among the best in Western Ireland. (Winner of the 2009 European Golf Resort of the Year as voted by The International Golf Tour Operator Association)

DROMOLAND CASTLE - Co. Clare
The Dromoland Castle is one of the most famous baronial castles in Ireland.  Dromoland was the ancestral seat of the O’Brien’s, Barons of Antiquing, direct descendants of Brian Brioche, High King of Ireland in the 10th century.  The castle itself dates back to the 16th century.  The 75 guest rooms have all been recently refurbished.  Each room has been decorated individually, with great attention to detail.
