DROMOLAND CASTLE –
Newmarket-on-Fergus
The Dromoland Castle is one of the famous
baronial castles in Ireland. Dromoland was
the ancestral seat of the O'Briens, Barons
of Inchiquin, direct descendants of Brian
Boroimhe, High King of Ireland in the 10th
century. The castle itself dates back to the
16th century. Their 75 guest rooms have all
been recently refurbished. Each room has
been decorated individually, with great
attention to detail. The British guide Egon
Ronay has named Dromoland Castle's dining
room as the best restaurant in Ireland. WWG

MERRION HOTEL - Co. Dublin
Opened in 1996 to acclaimed reviews
worldwide, the Merrion hotel is situated at
Dublin's most exclusive address immediately
across from the Irish Government buildings.
A series of four magnificent Georgian
Mansions have lovingly been restored over a
four year period, following prescribed
Historical Society standards. Over 64
million pounds have been expended to make
the Merrion the premier, five star hotel in
Dublin (some say it deserves six stars on
the five star scale!). Residential
from the outside, the interior delights from
one room to another...magnificent restored
plasterwork...modern courtyard
garden...restored cellar casual restaurant
and pub...the owner's multimillion-dollar
private art collection displayed about the
hotel. Ideally located, but quiet and
elegant in every way. Dublin's only Michelin
multi-starred restaurant, paid the
re-developers their very highest
compliment..unheard of in the gourmet
restaurant business...they moved their
restaurant to the hotel.
