St Andrews Area
OverviewSt Andrews and The Kingdom of Fife and the cradle of world golf, where it all began! Probably 90% of our Scotland golf packages include St Andrews golf to not only the great nearby courses such as The Old Course, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns, but to walk the ancient streets of the "Auld Grey Toon", visit the British Golf Museum, and stroll St Andrews Cathedral with the graves of Old Tom and Young Tom Morris. Don't overlook the "second tier" St Andrews golf courses in Fife, including St Andrews Castle Course, which many consider the most underrated new course in Scotland. The Fairmont St Andrews have two seaside courses, Kittocks and Torrance, and the St Andrews Old Course Hotel's Dukes Course is a popular choice for an afternoon round with a cart! Guests should always plan on including at least three full days in St Andrews to maximize the golf opportunities nearby and if utilizing the St Andrews Old Course ballot. Remember, The Old Course is closed on Sundays, and Thursday through Saturday are normally the best days to get on! Of course, our office staff located in St Andrews will manage it all for you! |
Most Popular St Andrews Area CoursesST. ANDREWS OLD COURSE (6,721 yards men par 72 / 6032 yards ladies par 76) - The most famous course in the world dates back to the 1500’s and needs no introduction (#4 Golf Magazine World Top 100). Host of many Open Championships including most recently in 2000 and 2005, both won by Tiger Woods, and the 2010 Open won by Louis Oosthuizen. Not a hard course from the visitor tees, but historic and entertaining! Handicap certificates required max 24 for men and 36 for ladies. WWG Grade A KINGSBARNS GOLF LINKS (7,100 yards - par 72) - Superb links from a similar layout over 80 years ago, opened in 2000 (#54 Golf Magazine World Top 100). Ocean front holes and superb crafting make it one of the most beautiful and challenging in Scotland, already a must play ever over more famous “Open Rota” courses. Often voted the favorite course in Scotland by visitors! WWG Grade: A+ CARNOUSTIE GOLF LINKS (6,692 yards – par 72) - A municipal course frequently called “evil”, and “brutal”, and site of the ’53, ’77, ‘99 and 2007 Open Championships (#21 Golf Magazine World Top 100). Quite simply one of the finest and hardest golf courses in the world, and site of the 2010 British Seniors Open. WWG Grade: A+ ST. ANDREWS NEW COURSE (6,625 yards men par 71 / 5992 yards ladies par 75) - The New Course is thought by many to be a tougher test of golf than The Old and was laid out in 1895 by legendary Tom Morris. No handicap limit and many similar characteristics of the Old Course. WWG Grade B (some carts available) ST. ANDREWS CASTLE GC (7188 yards men par 71 / 5460 yards ladies par 71) – The 7th St Andrews Links course opened in June 2008. Designed by David McLay Kidd, a links style course of amazing beauty overlooking the ocean and the town of St Andrews. With some severe greens, but many spectacular holes too, guests either love it or hate it (depending on how they played!), although most think it’s quite good. WWG Grade A- ST. ANDREWS JUBILEE GC – (6,742 yards men par 72 / 5956 yards ladies par 74) While not enjoying the acclaim of its more famous sister at St. Andrews, the Jubilee is a superb test which first opened in 1897, underwent slight course revisions by Donald Steele in 1988, and was site of the 2004 British Amateur Championship. No handicap limit. WWG Grade B+ (some carts available) ST. ANDREWS DUKES COURSE (7512 to 5216 yards - par 71) - A nice faux-links course on the hills overlooking St. Andrews, totally refurbished in ’05-06, this challenging course even has carts to save the legs! The luxurious clubhouse, superb views and course conditioning are world class. Five sets of tees to accommodate all levels of player, the Dukes is a great addition to the local golf scene. WWG Grade B+ (some carts available) FAIRMONT ST ANDREWS KITTOCKS COURSE – (7,049 yards – par 72) A truly magnificent rugged seaside landscape with dramatic elevation changes and greens perched on cliff tops, creating a truly unique golfing experience. Multi million £ upgrade and renovation in 2008 – now a superb challenge. WWG Grade B (some carts available) FAIRMONT ST ANDREWS TORRANCE COURSE – (7,026 yards – par 72) A new links with cliff-edge holes and stunning views over sea and the medieval skyline of historic St Andrews. A walking course, the finishing four holes are as tough as it gets, and the 17th is one of the best in the country! WWG Grade B CRAIL GC – Crail Golfing Society is the seventh oldest club in the world, originally designed by the legendary Old Tom Morris, and this par 68 classic links is situated at Fifeness, the most easterly point of the East Neuk of Fife. This course is one of the “sleepers” that most miss, but have so much character that it is perfect for a second round after a more difficult morning course! (small practice facility on site) WWG Grade: B |
